Gene R. Barrett, M.D.

Dr. Gene Barrett was born and raised in McComb, Mississippi. After receiving an Associate of Arts degree from Southwest Community College (student body president) and attending Millsaps College, Dr. Barrett entered medical school at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in Jackson and received the Doctor of Medicine degree in 1974.

Dr. Barrett's professional training in Orthopaedic surgery includes a one-year general surgery internship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He completed his Orthopaedic surgery residency in 1979 at the Greenville Hospital System in Greenville, South Carolina. Dr. Barrett completed a fellowship (extra specialty training) in sports medicine and knee surgery at The Hughston Orthopaedic Clinic in Columbus, Georgia, and he also completed an A-O International fellowship in Basel, Switzerland. While in Georgia he helped with the Auburn athletic teams, and he also worked with many soccer and ski teams while in Switzerland. Dr. Barrett is Board Certified in the specialty of Orthopaedic surgery with a special interest in Anterior Cruciate Ligiment surgery and other advanced knee procedures.
